I was sickened to my stomach when I first saw the name of one of my very closed friend during my Secondary School days and studied at the same University in the former Soviet Union, Moscow. Dr. (Engr.) Godwin Ike Abugu popularly known as Bugus in our olden days. I wish it was just an accident that requires and organ been given for his survival, I would have offer any part of my organs for his survival.
ReplyDeleteBugus, as we all called him, is an easy going person. He bagged Bachelor/Masters and a PhD In Mechanical Metallurgical Engineering from Moscow National University of Science and Technology formally known as Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys He has since in
early 90s relocated to Nigeria where many of us went to the western world to settle.
Bugus, is the kind of guy who believed that hard work paid off in the long run. He was always very accommodating in every spectrum of life. I remembered during our University days, he tried to convince me to join stigma club in Moscow. This is a social club in which he was a dynamic member.
He always calls me Joe, work without play make jack a dull boy. I cannot believed that he left us so soon. My heart goes out to his wife and the kids he left behind. I remember 2001 when I visited home, he just took a wife then. May God Almighty continue to give the family the fortitude to bear the lost. My condolences goes to his younger brother who came to Moscow after I left Russia Dr. Tony Abugu God would give you the wisdom and courage to be able to support his children that has now become your responsibilities.
The merciful God would crown your efforts to ensure those children would be supported to fill the gap his death has created. My very hearted condolences goes to his young and beautiful wife, keep the courage. He watches over you and the kids. It was not in his intention to depart from you so soon. Remain bless forever Amen!
Thank you very much for sharing this with us Mr. Akomodi!
ReplyDeleteMay the dearly departed rest in peace.
Oh no!
ReplyDeleteI am gob-smacked. A Titan has just been cruelly snatched away from us. I still find it so difficult to accept Bugus is no more. I only spoke to him and fidelis Wopara by phone late last year while they were attending a meeting of soviet graduates in Abuja and he was advising me to return back home. Despite a bit of student political differences during our time in the old soviet union, Bugus was one of my most distinguished predecessors as the Secretary General of the Nigerian Students Union USSR. He was a meticulous and persistently concise administrator of our organisation. He helped stabilise our then organisation between 1985 & 1986 before handing over to my immediate predecessor Taiwo Adelaja One special quality I learnt from him was that you always know where he stands on many issues. He was an independent minded person who believes in providing leadership from the front. In a normal society without corruption, men like Abugu should be at the fore front of running the country rather than the sycophants that has been stagnating the progress of the nation. Its so sad that due to this same maniac of corruption, the nation had had to so cheaply loose the life of this truly magnanimous son of Africa. So sad. Rest in peace my Boss. I cry for your soul as only God can truly console your family and friends. Thanks to my old friend Joe for the timely update
Dr Daniel Oyetayo Kenomore.
