Nigeria lost 589,000 barrels of crude oil per day in the last two months

The Nigerian militant attacks on oil facilities in Nigeria have lead to the country's drastic cut in oil production. It's been reported by the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Mr. Mohammed S Barkindo that 12 oil facilities attacked by the militants caused the shut down of 589,000 barrels per day in two months. He mentioned that the situation is getting out of control and that all major oil companies operating in the Niger Delta have been hit by the militants.

Oil prices drop to around $64. a barrel despite militant attacks in Nigeria

After the barrage of attacks by Nigerian militants in the Niger Delta on major oil facilities. The price of oil surprisingly dropped from an 8 month high of $73 a barrel last week to around $64 a barrel this week as unimpressive unemployment figures showed that America and Europe will not be making an economic recovery as soon as expected.

Head of sales trading for Saxo Capital Markets in Singapore shared these comments on the economy:

"It's not looking pretty in terms of economic data, the demand side fear is coming back into play."

"More and more people are becoming convinced we won't see a full-blown recovery any time soon."

Some other analysts still expect the prices to rise again on signs that the worst of the economic slowdown will soon be behind us. Gerard Rigby, an energy analyst at Fuel First Consulting in Sydney said "I think the market will look for some positive news and head back up toward $70, there's been some profit taking in the last week, but I don't think there was a real change in sentiment."

Nigerian drug enforcement agency arrest 50 year old woman with 585g of cocaine

As 50 year old Akormadu Florence was about to board a KLM flight at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Nigeria, she was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement agency on suspicion she might have drugs on her. They were right, as she was kept under observation by the operatives, she excreted 42 wraps of cocaine, weighing 585 grammes.

Mr. Sumaila Ethan who is the area commander of the special unit of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) disclosed that drug traffickers have come up with new tricks to out maneuver NDLEA agents by abandoning their luggage as unclaimed at the airport, then storming the airline office to claim the same consignment at a later date.

Ethan added "The drugs were packed in a bag and left unclaimed among others, and no sooner the bags were about to be taken to the Egypt Air office than NDLEA operatives insisted in searching them, during which a bag, which tag was believed to have been removed to conceal the identity of the trafficker was searched and the drugs was discovered."

Ethan also made this  statement to deter future drug traffickers  "Let me warn that Kano Airport is a no-go area. My officers have been placed on alert to foil any move drug barons may make to ferry their drugs through the airport, as all loop holes have been blocked."
