Styl-Plus Return


Their smash hit single 'Olufunmi' was responsible for putting Nigerian pop music on the global map. Now the R&B trio are making a come back to the mainstream!


Styl-Plus recently performed for the president of Sierra Leone to celebrate the country's independence day and their performance reportedly brought the house down. This current success has certainly set a precedence for a resurgence of the group that started it all in Nigeria.


According to their manager,the group plans to be moving to Lagos, Nigeria in a few weeks, they plan to stage a concert in Lagos currently titled 'Styl-Plus and Friends' to mark their move to the city. The manager also mentioned that they are working on a new album.

Nigerian drug enforcement agency arrest 50 year old woman with 585g of cocaine

As 50 year old Akormadu Florence was about to board a KLM flight at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Nigeria, she was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement agency on suspicion she might have drugs on her. They were right, as she was kept under observation by the operatives, she excreted 42 wraps of cocaine, weighing 585 grammes.


Mr. Sumaila Ethan who is the area commander of the special unit of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) disclosed that drug traffickers have come up with new tricks to out maneuver NDLEA agents by abandoning their luggage as unclaimed at the airport, then storming the airline office to claim the same consignment at a later date.


Ethan added "The drugs were packed in a bag and left unclaimed among others, and no sooner the bags were about to be taken to the Egypt Air office than NDLEA operatives insisted in searching them, during which a bag, which tag was believed to have been removed to conceal the identity of the trafficker was searched and the drugs was discovered."


Ethan also made this  statement to deter future drug traffickers  "Let me warn that Kano Airport is a no-go area. My officers have been placed on alert to foil any move drug barons may make to ferry their drugs through the airport, as all loop holes have been blocked."

MEND kidnap crew from oil tanker


Nigerian Militants today kidnapped six members of the crew of an oil tanker in the Niger Delta of Nigeria. The kidnapped include  three Russians (captain of the ship is one of the Russians), two Filipinos and one Indian.


MEND released this statement pertaining to the kidnappings:


"Their arrest is meant to serve as a warning to others that there are root issues that have to be resolved with the Nigerian government before normalcy can resume".

Nigerian Militants blow up Chevron facility and attack Shell oil well head over the weekend


Over the weekend the movement for the emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) blew up a Chevron oil facility in Nigeria which controls about 80% of the company's off shore crude oil and also attacked a Shell oil well head.


On Sunday, a spokesman for MEND released this statement:


"The strategic Okan manifold which controls about 80 percent of Chevron Nigeria limited off shore crude oil to its BOP Crude Loading Platform was blown up at about 2045 Hrs on Sunday, June 5 2009 by Hurricane Moses in Delta state".


"As long as the Nigerian government and military JTF has chosen to carry out kidnappings and arson against innocent communities and individuals, Moses will fight for them".


"Government should display the highest form of integrity and sincerity over the detention of Henry Okah at this period of his fading health".


"Our fighting force has been boosted by volunteers made up men and women from all tribes and beyond".


"It is very encouraging to see the people break away from the status quo and we call on every Niger-Delta to make a sacrifice, as we head towards the promised land".


Shell facilities in the Niger Delta were also victims to MEND attacks this past weekend. Militants attacked a well head owned by Shell in the Cawthorne Channel around Bonny in Rivers state. These attacks on Chevron and Shell come two weeks after the President of Nigeria Umaru Musa Yar'Adua offered an amnesty deal in which the Militants declined.
